What’s New
Dinosaurs: China's Ancient Giants
When: February 2 – September 1
Where: Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI)
What: Travel back in time 200 million years and witness China’s most spectacular ancient inhabitants in the largest collection of authentic Chinese fossils ever toured. China’s Ancient Giants features twenty complete dinosaur skeletons (both casts and fossils), interactive touch screens, activity carts, a “dig pit” where kids of all ages can become paleontologists for a day, and a 67 foot long adult Mamenchisaurus, the longest-necked dinosaur ever! Other rarely seen dinosaurs featured in the exhibit include the fierce Velociraptor, the feathered Caudipteryx, the plant eating Lufengosaurus and the duck-billed Tsintaosaurus.
Historic Columbia River Gorge’s Multnomah Falls
When: Anytime
Where: 20 minutes east of Troutdale, Oregon
What: A chance to see the rushing waters of Multnomah Falls, the second-tallest year-round waterfall in the nation. Unusually cold weather can freeze the plummeting water into a majestic icicle.
Travel the Gorge’s winding, scenic highway to get there. And be sure to stop at the Vista House at Crown Point to get one of the area’s best views!
The Dancer
When: February 2 - May 1, 2008
Where: Portland Art Museum
What: A landmark exhibition, appearing exclusively at the Portland Art Museum, explores the complex image of the dancer in the work of three artists intrigued by various manifestations of dance in fin-de-siècle Paris: Edgar Degas (1834-1917), Jean-Louis Forain (1852-1931), and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901). The Dancer presents an international roster of more than 110 works of art, including rarely seen paintings, pastels, drawings, prints, and sculptures from collections in Europe and the United States.
